This is it. Time for Maskfest 2010. I have been looking forward
to this since last year. While I have met many of my sculpting
influences ( Stan Winston, Tom Savini, Randy Bowen) this is
the first show I have ever done that is a MASK show. Plus
I will be debuting the She-Creature and of course, the very
best in T-shirt designs from a warped mind. See you there!

MaskMasters
does Wondefest 2008 - And a whole lot more!
Well months have gone by and a lot has happened since Megacon
- namely Omegacon, Emerald City, Florida Supercon, Adventurecon,
Joecon, Botcon, and Wonderfest. Thanks to everyone for their
support. Wonderfest really stood out as a special kind of
show and I recommend it to anyone who just wants to check
out the best custom work out there. I was lucky enough to
have my booth next to John
Pinkerton. John does absolutely amazing work on custom
toys and resin kits. The funniest thing about meeting John
was when he told me that the head bust I have been building
all my masks on for the past 8 years has been him!
I am also proud to unveil the latest addition to the MaskMasters
Collection - the Hideous Sun Demon. Order yours now!

MaskMasters
does Megacon 2008!
Megacon 2008 is the next stop for MaskMasters tour. Not
only is Megacon in my backyard, it is also one of the biggest
shows in the country all year long. Costuming is very strong
and the show is a favorite. Hope to see you there!
2008 is already turning out to be a great year, including
current talks about MaskMasters getting into the movies! New
products are in the works as well. And as always, keep sending
in your suggestions! There has been talk of doing a promotion
with Aintitcoolnews.com
and your suggestion could be the one that gets done. Let
Harry know you want the contest to happen NOW!

MaskMasters
returns from ACE 2008!
Atlanta Comic Expo 2008 was the next stop for MaskMasters
tour. Although it was a small show (hosted by the folks that
bring us Dragoncon), the crowd was perfect for MaskMasters.
There is a horror crowd in Atlanta that really appreciates
the mask work. Once again the Demon was the first to go. I
made a lot of great contacts and learned a bunch about new
techniques. The winner of the costume contest, Beau Brown,
had an awesome Etrigan mask that he made himself. Kudos to
you Beau. And lets not forget - Megacon is really just right
around the corner! See you there!

MaskMasters returns
from FX 2008!
The second stop on MaskMasters 2008 tour was FX in Orlando,
Fl. FX has turned itself around from a year ago when the hall
was only half filled. No photos to share, just the news that
the went well and that Megacon is right around the corner!
See you there!

MaskMasters returns
from Fangoria Austin 2008!
The first stop on MaskMasters 2008 tour was Fangoria in Austin,
Texas, this past weekend. This was a real last minute decision,
and I have to say it was one of the best decisions I have
ever made. I got to spend the weekend talking with Tom
Savini, Harry Knowles,
Lou Perryman and Buzzcut
Productions. I have a lot to say about the weekend and
it is all good.
The weekend started out just like my own personal B horror
movie. A long road trip to a strange new town. A hotel that
could be seen from the highway, yet could not be reached.
While looping around within blocks of the hotel I almost got
into an accident sliding down a hill on a rain-slicked Austin
sidestreet. The mild heart attack was just what I needed to
get me out of the self-induced coma I was in from driving
18 hours straight.
I was pleasantly surprised to find out that I was only a
table away from Tom Savini. I have spoken with Tom briefly
at other cons, but I had a new crop of Sleestak masks and
my Curse of the Demon with me this time. I made it a point
to pull it out and show him as I was setting up. Later on
during setup I returned to my table to find Tom checking out
my Scorpius mask. I don't know how to express just how cool
it was to have Tom Savini checking out my stuff. It was, and
still is, surreal for me.
The show started and it was only minutes before Harry Knowles
dropped by. He had his eyes on my Curse of the Demon and it
immediately became his. Later on I realized what a golden
opportunity I was missing by not asking Tom and Harry for
mask suggestions. So on Saturday I did just that.
All the while I had been chatting it up with my neighbors:
Lou Perryman (LG from Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2) and the people
from Buzz Cut Productions. Great stories that you wouldn't
hear anywhere else. I also got to checkout the actual prosthetics
used on Lou for TCM 2. Tom had given them to Lou and he only
brings them out for these shows. It was a real treat to see
and feel them with my own hands.
Maybe I don't have as much to say as I thought, but I left
the show feeling like it had been a once in a lifetime show.
The great thing about shows is that they have the potential
to be unique events. Sure you expect to see celebrities and
as a vendor you hope some people will really like what you
make, but it is the surprises along the way that really get
you. I have a feeling that 2008 is going to be full of surprises.
Keep checking up on Aintitcoolnews.com for a MaskMasters
event.

The Unbelievable Laundry Detergent Man mask was commissioned
by Nino Mesarina for use in a play based upon his original
characters. I met Nino at a small con near Chicago. He liked
my masks but wanted one of his original creation ULDM. Although
the play is in production limbo, I plan to complete the ULDM
set with a Dirty Laundry mask in late 2005.

At another Chicago con I was fortunate to have a sponsor
in Barry Halperin of Quintessential Comics. This time I was
official with a stand displaying my masks. Fan response was
tremendous. I left without a mask, but that’s because
I gave a couple away. The first was a Super Skrull. I posted
a Mole man and a Super Skrull on my fists and waded through
the crowd of people gathered to see Kevin Smith. He was done
speaking for the day, but was still surrounded. I held up
my masks and said, “ Kevin – I have a gift for
you.”
He came right over to me and graciously accepted the Super
Skrull mask as a gift. He even spent a few moments talking
about my work. Kevin – let’s do a Skrull movie!

As time passed and my masked were featured on FFPlaza.com,
I eventually got a special request for a Thing mask. It was
for Mark Waid, the current writer for the FF. He intended
it as a gift, but after seeing it in person decided he had
to have one for himself. He liked it enough to commission
Golgoth, an original character from his series, “ Empire.”

Pat Dinizio, lead singer of the Smithereens purchased a Red
Skull mask from me off ebay. Pat’s interest in masks
centered around classic horror movies of the 50’s and
60’s. He asked if I knew where he could find a mask
of the Demon from the 1957 Dana Andrews film. Know where to
find one? I’ll make one. That lead to making the Demon,
my first non-super hero mask.
